Global electricity demand is growing faster than renewables, driving a strong increase in generation from fossil fuels.

The growing use of air conditioners around the world will be one of the top drivers of global electricity demand over the next three decades, according to new analysis by the International Energy Agency, which stresses the urgent need for policy action to improve cooling efficiency.

Conventional cooling accounts for 10% of all global greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than twice the emissions generated from aviation and maritime combined.
